I haven't done any recording in my life time and I am glad I picked MAG Recording! Michael is not just a pro but also made me felt comfortable the entire time so I actually had a great time recording my first song cover. The rate is also reasonable. Highly recommended! Definitely would be coming back again.

Michael is a skilled and knowledgable recording studio wizard. He's been extremely gracious during the course of my album project, offering helpful suggestions from years of experience behind the board. The space he's created is adorned with an impressive array of vintage and state of the art gear, housed in a warm, comfortable setting. Michael's demeanor is friendly, elevating the entire experience. One of, if not THE best experience I've had in a full-service studio. Will be back for my next project!

Michael Grosso has all the pro gear you can think of, a gorgeous studio, and many many years of experience in the field. But what sets him truly apart from many others -IMHO- is the going beyond the expected and not just by one mile but by many. He becomes your ally in getting your audio/musical vision out to the world, in top quality, and helping you from start to finish. A pleasure to work with and highly recommended!

I've worked with Michael over the years on my recording projects and found him to be an extremely valuable player among the best of engineers in the biz. Michael is not only an experienced recording engineer, but also a musician, which is more like icing on your cake.

When the stars quickly aligned for a last minute session with a long-time friend and collaborator in-town from the west cost, Michael Grosso answered the call on short notice, and MAG Studio was the perfect place to cut a single. Here's why:

COMMUNICATION: From the lightning-fast reply to my inquiry (I'm still waiting to even hear from other studios I contacted) to supportive feedback in the studio to correspondence post-session, Michael is prompt, articulate, welcoming, and exceedingly knowledgeable.

COMFORT: Beyond the clever construction for acoustical purposes, the studio is a relaxing, quiet, clean, and uncluttered space, leaving room to focus on the music without other distractions. We spent all day happily working away and easily could have spent all night.

LOCATION: A short 30 minute-drive from where we stayed in Asheville puts MAG studio just far enough away from the city to really get away with lovely views (as are expected in western NC) and the added bonus of a Dunkin Donuts on the way to fuel up. I'm based in Durham and would gladly make the drive again to work there--if they'll have me after what must have been a 1,000 vocal takes. (Just kidding. Michael is beyond patient.)

SOUND: We left with absolutely pristine audio in the can. Whether singing into a killer rebuilt vintage Neumann mic or capturing a near-flawless stereo rendering of my acoustic guitars through the voodoo of his trine mic arrangement, MAG had everything we needed and nothing we didn't.

COMPING/POST: Michael was incredibly efficient as we comped takes on the fly--no small thing when you're buying studio time by the hour. He always had what we needed to hear, right when we needed it so we could keep the momentum going and found great places for us to punch in so that, with some of his tech wizardry, we could produce a seamless but still human/natural sound--something you can lose pretty quickly in the digital recording world. We never felt rushed. He's focused on you and your music, willing to share his perspective when it might be useful with no strings or expectations attached. He continued working on our tracks after our session, leveling, gently touching up the inevitable pitchy moments, and ensuring we had clean takes for us to mix later--and did all of it in a more than reasonable amount of billable time. As soon as we settled the tab online, Michael shared with us all of the tracks promptly so we could begin mixing and even threw in a rough cut reference mix.

BOTTOM LINE: It had been a long time since I had been in the studio and though eager to cut this track to begin a longer recording process, I often think of the studio as an intimidating places. I can assure you, MAG is anything but. Michael brings a lifetime of sound experience and expertise but also a kind spirit and good sense of humor with him to the room. Whether it's your first go-around or you're a seasoned pro, MAG will deliver what you need to make what you want. We found it to be a great value, a first-rate experience, and frankly, a really fun way to spend a day. I'd selfishly like to keep MAG Studios a best-kept-secret of Western, NC so I can book there whenever I want, but hey, now it's out of the bag, so have at it.
