The stars I'm giving are solely because they have a cool collection of frames and are super affordable. When I was unhappy with my prescription in my new glasses, instead of giving me a new eye test, they just said to go back to my old prescription. I trusted their professional opinion, but I should not have. After reading reviews on here and seeing their comments asking people to reach out at their general email address, I contacted them, but I have not yet heard back. I do not think they want to help me out. The only good eye test I got with this chain was at the store in the negen straatjes. Maybe I should have gone back there, but I went with another location for convenience sake. Big mistake.

The most negative and unpleasant experience with customer service I’ve had in a long time, particularly at this van Woustraat location.

I did an eye test at Ace & Tate a few weeks ago and ordered new frames from there as well to match my updated prescription. When I went to pick up my glasses and tried them on at the store right away, I found that they installed the completely wrong prescription onto the glass (I’m -2 and they added -3). Pointed this out and got it fixed, fine.

I wore the glasses for two weeks to give my eyes a break from my lenses, and was hit by the worst migraines of my life, to the point where I couldn’t work and had to lay down and turn off the lights to not make it worse. This kept going and I went to go see my regular optician who remeasured my eyes and glasses, which is when I found the eye test and prescription they did at Ace & Tate was completely inaccurate, where they miscalculated both my eyes’ prescription by 0.5 each and also missed the optic centers on the glasses. Which explains the migraines.

I went back to the van Woustraat location and was met with the manager, who was incredibly rude and condescending. She laughed at me numerous times when I explained my situation and asked for assistance, and rolled her eyes when I mentioned my ongoing headaches. I also said I didn’t want to ruin my eye sight further to which she replied that wearing glasses with the wrong prescription “doesn’t do that” and that I should just take time to get used to them and wait. I felt completely gaslit and disrespected as she said she can’t help me if I “chose to go with a different eye test prescription”, as though the one I did at my optician’s was the one that was inaccurate instead the one that was done at their own store….? For the record my whole family wears glasses/lenses and we’ve been going to our optician for over 5 years and have always had positive experiences, so I know his measurements and prescriptions were trustworthy. I turned down the offer to redo my eye test at the store again because frankly, why would I do that after my prescription was already messed up twice?

Overall I was so frustrated towards the end of our conversation and asked why she found it appropriate laughing at me and whether should be more empathetic and considerate, to which she replied that she couldn’t help me.

In the end I ended up returning my glasses because I don’t want to pay for and wear glasses by a brand that treats its customers in such a patronizing and unfriendly way. I’m really disappointed by this negative experience with the store manager who gaslit me and whose tone was immensely patronizing, apathetic, and straight up rude.

Wish I could give 0 stars if I could. Ironic that an eyewear brand that’s supposed to help people improve their vision quite literally did the opposite and made my eye health and overall state of being so bad. Don’t want to support businesses whose ethos and values revolve around being straight up nasty.

Update: I followed the advice given in the response to the review and on 6 December wrote to Ace and Tate about the situation. Since I got no answer, I wrote again and still there is no answer. Adding insult to injury...

This used to be my go-to optician for a decade. Unfortunately, quality and service are not keeping up. Or, possibly, I am unlucky...
Anyway, this is the story:
I bought a pair of glasses a little over one year ago and the lenses started to peel. I took them to the shop and they told me that washing them with water and a tiny bit of mild soap ruined the lenses. Never mind, the fact that I have worn glasses for more than 30 years, that in the last 10+ years I had Ace & Tate glasses and never had a problem with my cleaning strategy...
I am disappointed

I visited for upgrading my fixed lenses to progressive ones and my experience was top-notch. I was assisted by Sofia, who was very helpful in walking me through the available options, explaining me the Ace & Tate 60-days no-questions-asked return policy (important since progressives aren't cheap), and adapting my prescription to my frames.
My new glasses were ready in less than a week. I'm wearing them for two weeks now, and I can say that they are the upgrade I expected. Thanks!

Really bad and unhelpful attitude from one of the girls that works there - as soon as I walked in she clearly didn't look like she wanted to help me and kept making unnecessary comments to me trying to diverge me from getting my lens replaced It's my choice in the end if I want to pay to get them replaced or not - what a strange encounter.

Slechte ervaring!
Zeer teleurstellend.
