I saw Dr. Cao today for my first visit. I really liked him. He was very conversational, asking about my concerns in depth and discussing solutions. I would recommend him and will return with future problems.

This is the worst doctor I have ever had. I have gone in with multiple issues and he does not give thorough exams or diagnoses. Also, every time I need a prescription refill, it will takes DAYS/WEEKS to process and many times I will have to call back and follow up. I have had asthma my entire life and every time I need a new inhaler, Dr. Cao will make me come in to “listen to my lungs” before he prescribes one. This is the first doctor I have ever had this issue with and it is a huge waste of everyone’s time and my money. I do not recommend seeing Vance Cao or his team for your healthcare needs.

First of all I never ever give a review or ever state anything negative, usually things roll off my back but today I feel the need to say something. I was switching from a pediatric doctor to an adult doctor and didn’t feel as comfortable with Dr. Cao. This was my very first visit with him. I Think I was subconsciously nervous walking in. My blood pressure was elevated for my age of 18. He immediately started talking about my nutrition and eating habits as if I was eating bad and telling me I need to stay away from all meats. Which I really don’t eat much meat except chicken. The way he was talking to me just didn’t seem as friendly as other doctors. It felt that he was talking a little harsh towards me. When I was with my pediatrician my blood pressure was high to start so they nicely told me to relax and they’ll take it again. After a few minutes it was much lower and in perfect healthy range. Unfortunately they didn’t retake my blood pressure even after I stated I was probably nervous. I was confused as to why he was basically telling me I have high blood pressure and need to eat better and exercise and also sent me to get blood work when simply I could have just been nervous. Keep in mind this was my very first time getting a new doctor and first visit with this doctor. I was nervous and he didn’t help at all. I love Hoag hospital and everyone I have cam across was very welcoming but this doctor rubbed me the wrong way and makes me not want to come back.

I went in because I have been having panic attacks. He asked if I exercise and I said I usually do but last time I started having weird feelings in my chest (aka anxiety). He said that is my heart rate increasing from exercise (as if I'm dumb as a rock) and that I should have learned ways to deal with anxiety by now. Also said my problems will continue to get worse for the rest of my life. He thought I was crying because I was unstable, but I was just angry and heartbroken.

I think I learned more about him than he did about me. I came in because I am having trouble with my legs. He hardly looked at my legs and told me that the pain is weight related. While looking at my legs he recommended laser hair removal… rude. There is more i just don’t feel comfortable speaking about it publicly. I do not recommend seeing Dr. Cao.

Dr Cao was amazing and is amazing. We took our son who just turned 18 to Dr Cao office with very odd symptoms. Dr Cao was patient, knowledgeable and willing to perform any test to find out what was weong with our son. He also got us an appt with another Specialists asap and took such great care of our bo . We cant thank Dr Cao enough for his help expertise and drive to help us find out the cause of my sons sickness. Dr Cao is fast, efficient and awesome.

I came to Dr. Cao simply for a physical therapy referral and he claimed it was carpal tunnel. I have had numbing and pain for the past 3 months from neck/shoulder, back and wrist (right-side). He gave me 4 sessions for physical therapy and after my therapy called in for more Dr. Cao did not respond for over a week to them. I had an appointment scheduled today for physical therapy and I got a call about 9:30am from my therapy saying Dr. Cao finally got back saying he refused my physical therapy. In his defense, I did fill out a quick survey on an iPad while talking to others and accidentally filled out the survey saying my pain was worse but the therapy I rated 5 stars. I told them I didn’t realize what I had done, accidentally. I thought it was a simple survey and was just pushing buttons. They told me my dr. will see the results, such as much greater range of motion, etc. and realize my survey wasn’t filled out properly.

Dr. Cao refused my physical therapy referral and did not contact me at all. Plus it took 11 days for Dr. Cao to reply to my therapy.

This really has been a bad experience and will make sure this post is documented.
